If Karma News fights for loudspeaker-removal from all temples, churches and mosques, it is good for the public cause.

Karma News, an online news portal from Kerala, published a video in You Tube on 18 January 2020, condemning the stand of Mr. Artist Subhash and others who lead the Against Illegal Loudspeakers movement in Kerala, and announcing that they will sue for equal justice in the Devaswom Board of Travancore’s ordering all loudspeakers in temples under their control to be dismantled, while those in churches nad mosques remain. This order for removal of loudspeakers in temples was an achievement of the works of AIL for a long time, in pursuance of the blanket ban on loudspeakers by the Supreme Court of India.

If Karma News moves to demanding equal justice for all religions in the use of loudspeakers and demands the dismantling of loudspeakers in all temples, mosques and churches, it is good. And that is what is expected of them as a media. And that will also serve a public cause. However, the stand of media like Karma News and that of people like Mr. Subhash and others who strove to bring out this mike ban in general and this order in particular, on what the relevance of the Supreme Court's ban on loudspeakers in religious and political premises is and why communal elements are opposing this ban for commercial reasons, needs be looked into.

On viewing the news video against Artist Subhash in Karma News, it appears that they are infuriated against the Supreme Court of India and quite a number of High Courts in states including Kerala for banning the use of loudspeakers in buildings, halls and premises which are supposedly conducting religious business. That news video does not even acknowledge the works and achievements of people like Mr. Subhash in bringing about this legislation, but instead says there must be some others- Binamis probably- behind him in getting this order issued by the Travancore Devaswom Board- clear insinuation that Christians or Muslims must be those Binamis. This media’s immediate response to this Devaswom Board Order was presenting a person by name Gopalakrishnan whose squabble was that the people of Kerala are ‘thirsting’ for commercial airing of Hindu temple songs through loudspeakers and that those songs are part of their ‘nostaligia’. Whose thirst and whose nostalgia except of those who want to bring in steady flow of revenue to worshipping premises? He doesn’t even understand the Supreme Court’s issuing this order was after hearing and examining every kind of arguments from far better and more eminent personages in Indian Hinduism and other religions and political factions. It was not an order made without hearing their side, i.e. of those who want loudspeakers to remain. The next day of releasing this first video this media appeared direct in another one and announced that they are moving for legal action: legal action for what- dismantling the loudspeakers in churches and mosques also, or quashing the Supreme Court order?

There are more number of people in the world, in India, in Kerala, and in the other states who stand against loudspeakers that those who stand for loudspeakers. That is why anti-loudspeaker legislations are made in countries of the modern world, prompted by them on arguments and facts based on science, ethics and common sense. In fact, this loudspeaker ban throughout the world is the result of the untiring work and campaigns of those who take a firm stand against sound pollution and noise of any kind through the years and these laws and judicial orders are in countries throughout the world is a result of their work. Every argument for retaining them were heard, countered, and waived- scientifically and legally- before passing these laws: that is how the modern democracy works. We know, these laws are the works of Hindus, Christians and Muslims in the world, though Hinduism, Christianity and Islam do not possess any democratic convictions at all- they are all religious theocracies with no democratic traits in them. All their arguments in favour of loudspeakers became redundant for the one single reason reason that their books and scriptures say never anything anywhere about modern gadgets like loudspeakers, electric lights, and internet and mobile communications being inevitable and ritualistic for religions. If their holy books are inviolable, sacrosanct, non-rewritable and non-amendable in other matters, let them remain so in all matters.

Karma News is soft on matters affecting adversely the Hindu Fanatic Movement in Kerala, and so is biting its teeth on an immovable rock. This rock will not move but they will only loose their teeth. There must be persons not behind Subhash but behind Karma News, who are angry. That’s why they make the great mistake of going against the modern world and arguing for the continuance of loudspeaker-harassment from temples. They are such angry that they cannot understand it is a beginning, led by the progressive-minded in the modern Hinduism, which the other religions including the Christianity and Islam will soon have to follow. If the Hindu temples abandon loudspeakers, there is no mistake the Christian churches and Muslim mosques will have to follow and dismantle theirs. The mistake of this media is in arguing for loudspeakers, instead of arguing against them and demanding their immediate dismantling in every religious institution.

Karma News is not something which is wished to be vanished from the sphere of social and political criticism. Besides, in criticizing the follies and wrong doings of the Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan-led Marxist Governement, they do an exceptional work. It is only that they are soft on BJP’s central government’s many acts of aggression against people and the economy of the country and blind towards the follies of Hindu institutions and organizations. They can decide if to move towards becoming a total Godi Media or to remain Impartial Press. It is their choice and decision to make.

Because Karma News made it a subject of public debate, both sides should be heard. Let them argue theirs for. Links to a few articles against, which earlier appeared in these columns, are given here:
